How to use your body to soothe your mind.
Calm Practice
Low Stimulation Sensory Shower 🚿
We can often rush through our showers, with our minds on many other things. This low-stimulation shower invites us to linger with our senses, melting tension away and restoring calm.
Pick and choose from the following ideas:
- Turn the lights off in the bathroom. For safety reasons, either have a light on outside of the bathroom and the door ajar or light some candles or plug a nightlight into the bathroom outlet.
- Pick a (water) temperature that is not too hot or too cold.
- Lower the shower pressure to a gentle rainstorm feel.
- Add some drops of your favorite essential oil on a washcloth placed on the shower floor or use a shower steamer infused with soothing scents. Instead of a shower steamer, you can light a scented candle before you start your shower (to allow the scent to fill the room) and use a body wash or soap of the same scent.
- Enjoy the silence or turn on your favorite calming music.
- Take your time, slowly and gently washing your body. Listen to the sound of the water, inhale and savor the scents of the steamer or shower products.
- As you wash your body, say a few words of gratitude to each part of your body. What do you love about this body part?
