How to use your body to soothe your mind.
Calm Practice
Single Focus
Pick a random object to center your focus. Pour all of your attention into this object.
Describe to yourself:
- All its tiny details such as, colors, shape, and textures.
- The way it feels in your hands and its weight.
- The way the light hits it and where its shadows fall.
Each time you notice your mind wandering, you get lost in thought, or your lose focus, gently bring your attention back to the object with compassion and non-judgment.
Set a timer and try to practice this mindful exercise for one (1) minute. You can extend this time as you feel more comfortable.
This can be an effective practice to do during your work day when you feel elevated stress levels. What object can you focus on at your work station? You may choose a different object each time you practice this exercise.
