How to use your body to soothe your mind.
Calm Practice
Energy Shield
Create an energy boundary, to create some space between you and ‘not you’. This is ideal for ‘people pleasers’ and people who tend to absorb the energy and emotions of others.
Stand tall and start pushing your hands through the air in different directions, like you are pushing through water, so you can feel your power meeting a gentle sense of resistance. Imagine you are creating an energy shield or that there is a clear Perspex boundary around your body protecting you.
Next, gently pat and press your hands over your body: down your arms, legs, chest and so on. Feel the physical boundary lines of your body, the place where you end and ‘not you’ begins.
Remind yourself of this protective boundary when you are around others who tend to leave you feeling draining.
You can say to yourself during this practice: ‘This is my body. These are my emotions. I have the power to choose what I allow in and what stays separate from me.’
