Mindful Music
Most of the time when we listen to music we hear the song as a whole. This tool helps us to use our sense of hearing to experience music in a mindful way.
Hit play on a song you love!
As you listen to the music:
- Notice the different instruments. Can you pick one and tune in to it for part of the song, then switch to focusing on another instrument?
- If there are lyrics, pay close attention to the words.
- Take note of the music’s speed or tempo.
- Notice what emotions come up for you as you listen to the song.
Try this exercise with different songs and genres of music.
Notice how the experience changes each time.
