How to use your body to soothe your mind.
Calm Practice
The River of Mind
Let’s imagine our mind is a river and we are sitting on the riverbank.
Notice your thoughts flowing by. Sometimes they are busy and fast, rushing by like rapids. Sometimes they are slow and steady, calm like the gentle flow of a stream. Other times your thoughts are like a whirlpool, threatening to suck you in.
Fighting with the flow of a river is what can keep you caught in painful emotional spirals. You can choose not to fight. You are the observer of the river of mind, sitting on the riverbank, taking comfort in simply witnessing the water.
