How to use your body to soothe your mind.
Calm Practice
Butterfly Taps
Bilateral stimulation can help us process emotions and memories by activating both hemispheres of our brain. It can also help us center our focus, providing a gentle way to stay grounded and connected to our body.
Here’s how!
Cross your arms over your chest and alternatively tap your opposite shoulder or collar bone in a consistent rhythm like a calm, steady heartbeat. Try this movement pattern for one (1) minute as you breathe slowly. Observe how you feel after this practice.
You can use this tool any time you feel dysregulated. You can also use this tool while thinking about your safe place.
