How to use your body to soothe your mind.

Calm Practice

Body Scan

Body scans can build awareness and connection with our body.

Here’s how!

  1. Sit in a comfortable chair, a cushion on the floor, or lie down on a comfy rug or yoga mat.
  2. Take a few deep breaths and notice the feeling of your body in contact with the surface beneath it.
  3. Start at your feet and begin to move up, mentally scanning each part of your body. Move your attention slowly, pausing to greet and embrace each part of you.
  4. If you meet any tension or discomfort, you can ‘breathe into’ this space. Say “Relax” in your mind as you exhale. Invite your body to surrender, feeling heavy and at ease, or simply observe the tension greeting it with a compassionate ‘You are welcome here.’
