Role Models

Perseverance is the continued effort to do something despite difficulties or failure.

How would a person you admire deal with your problems?

What would this person say or do to keep persisting?

After completing the first leg in Peloton’s Palomar Mountain Climb Series with Christine d’Ercole today (May 18, 2024), I admire Christine d’Ercole (or CDE as she is known in the Peloton community). We have experienced similar problems with body image and not feeling good enough throughout our lives. After every class I clip in with her, my negative self-talk or “chatter” begins to dissipate.

To deal with these problems and keep persisting, CDE would journal and repeat her mantra, “I am. I can. I will. I do.” And, of course, clip in and “ride the damn bike.” Just like CDE, cycling is a form of meditation for me. It calms the negative chatter in my head, allows me to focus on the present moment, and move forward one pedal stroke at a time.

What is your mantra?
