A Nutty, Protein-rich Post Workout Smoothie


Here is a sweet, nutty, and protein-rich smoothie to enjoy after your workout sessions this week!

Banana Almond Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 – 1/2 Frozen Bananas
  • 1 /2 cup Greek Yogurt (plain)
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Almond Butter (unsalted, crunchy or creamy)
  • Honey (optional)

Directions

Blend all ingredients until smooth.  Add a drizzle of honey for additional sweetness.

      Post-workout, pair your meal with a protein source and carbohydrate source – think, a 2:1 ratio, carbohydrates to protein – within 30 minutes of your exercise session. Despite all of the “hype” of more protein to meet your post-work recovery needs, carbohydrate consumption is also critical. During strenuous exercise your glycogen stores (where the carbohydrates in your body’s muscles are kept) are depleted and eating or drinking a carbohydrate source (in addition to protein) helps to these replenish these stores. Aim to consume 1.5 g per kg of carbohydrate during your 30 minute post-workout window. For maximum muscle glycogen replenishment, try to consume this same carbohydrate amount every 2 hours. Amino acids (what protein is broken down into before your body can use it) will not work effectively if you do not have enough carbohydrates and fat in your body. A good post-work snack to meet these needs is whole wheat toast with your favorite nut butter and a sliced banana.

Word Press offers helpful online support and tutorials, and their own complimentary templates. I have learned a lot through the experiences of creating and maintaining my blog over the last couple years. You can really put in as much or as little effort into your blog as you want. To build up a strong base of followers, I recommend adding 2-3 posts/week. You can simply write your current daily journal entries on Word Press as a blog post. A helpful tip to increase followers is to share all of your posts with social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, etc. If you have any further questions, you can reach out to me via email.     shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the
    shell to her ear and screamed. There was a
    hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
